The FSU College of Music is proud to present the 22nd annual Rainbow Concert of world music! On Friday, March 2, 2018 at 7:30 pm, the College of Music's world music ensembles (Chinese, Rock, Balinese Gamelan, Irish, Blues, Old Time, Middle Eastern, Andean, and Omnimusica) will take to the stage of the Ruby Diamond Concert Hall in a showcase performance of music from around the world.
The focus of this year's concert is director of the Chinese music ensemble, zheng virtuoso Haiqiong Deng, who will be leaving FSU this fall to conduct dissertation research in China. In addition to her performance with the Chinese ensemble, Haiqiong will also perform on several selections with the Balinese Gamelan, Irish ensemble, Omnimusica intercultural ensemble, and the FSU Rock Ensemble.
This performance is a ticketed event. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 students with FSU ID, and are available in advance and at the door. For more information, please call the College of Music Box Office at 645-7949.
ABOUT THE FEATURED ARTISTS
An internationally renowned zheng artist, Haiqiong Deng has performed at Carnegie Hall, presented recitals throughout North America and Asia, appeared as a concerto soloist with major symphony orchestras, and premiered commissioned works by leading Chinese and American composers. She has also released two prize-winning albums, and is also recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the 2017 Florida Cultural Heritage Award and the Ruby Chao Yeh Award of the Association for Chinese Music Research.
Special guests for the evening also include Indian sitar virtuoso (and Tallahassee resident) Nalini Vinayak, and the great Chinese pipa player, Yuxin Mei, instructor of Chinese music at the University of North Texas.
