The Political Economy and Identity Politics of a Stateless Nation: The Case of Kurds

Professor Tekdemir will talk about the trajectories of the Kurdish political economy and the construction of political identity within a historical context through three main cases. The Kurdish mode of production in the late Ottoman Empire, the new hegemonic relations between the modern Turkish nation-state and new Kurdish political agents in the early Republican era, and the contemporary construction of a post-modern Kurdishness, internal multiculturalism, and agonistic pluralism of the Kurdish political community.
