In the second workshop in the Interdisciplinary Archives Series, students will learn techniques for understanding various handwriting styles in preparation for visits to archives. The session includes instructions for creating a reference alphabet, prepping for genre-specific jargon or phrasing, decoding difficult sections, and other practical tips and tricks that increase a researcher’s success when faced with primary source documents. These skills will help students navigate and interpret handwritten materials with greater ease and accuracy. For travel grant credit, you must be an enrolled graduate student in a humanities or humanities-related field.
