This session is designed for graduate students in biology, geology, atmospheric sciences, oceanography, environmental sciences, and other earth‑science–related programs.

Conducting a comprehensive literature review is essential for identifying research problems and questions that advance your thesis or dissertation. This session will cover strategies and best practices for searching scholarly resources, organizing information, identifying relevant studies to support your research, and other helpful search tips and tricks.

We’ll discuss how to select the right databases for your topic, how to write and track your searches, and how to use tools and features within each database. The session will focus on effectively searching Web of Science and Scopus, with additional databases included as time and attendee interest allow.

We’ll work through foundational strategies for searching scientific literature to develop strong research questions and move your work forward. Bring your research topics and questions!
