Join FSU Libraries and several of Tallahassee’s most acclaimed poets for a Celebration of Poetry on April 6, 2-3pm in Strozier Library’s Bradley Reading Room. The invited poetry panelists will discuss and read celebration-themed poetry before inviting the audience to discuss and share celebratory poems that they enjoy. All are invited and light refreshments will be provided. Panelists for the event are listed below.
Dorothy Chan
Dorothy Chan is the author of Attack of the Fifty-Foot Centerfold (Spork Press, April 2018) and the chapbook Chinatown Sonnets (New Delta Review, 2017). She was a 2014 finalist for the Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellowship. Chan is the Assistant Editor of The Southeast Review.
Yolanda J. Franklin
Yolanda J. Franklin is a Cave Canem and Callaloo Fellow, a recipient of a 2016-17 McKnight Dissertation Fellowship and a Kingsbury Fellowship and is a 2018 Fulbright Finalist. Franklin is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. Her collection Blood Vinyls has just been issued by Anhinga Press.
James Kimbrell
James Kimbrell has published three volumes of poetry: Smote (2015); My Psychic (2006); and The Gatehouse Heaven (1998); and was co-translator of Three Poets of Modern Korea: Yi Sang, Hahm Dong-Seon, and Choi Young-Mi (2002), all with Sarabande Books. He has been the recipient fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation.
David Kirby
David Kirby's collection The House on Boulevard St.: New and Selected Poems was a finalist for the National Book Award in 2007. Kirby’s honors include fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation. His latest poetry collection is Get Up, Please.
Michael Rothenberg
Michael Rothenberg is the editor of BigBridge.org and co-founder of 100 Thousand Poets for Change (www.100tpc.org). His most recent books of poetry include Drawing the Shade (Dos Madres Press, 2016), Wake Up and Dream (MadHat Press, 2017), and a bi-lingual edition of Indefinite Detention: A Dog Story (Varasek Ediciones, Madrid, Spain, 2017). His journal Tally Ho and The Cowboy Dream will be published in a bi-lingual edition by Varasek Ediciones in 2018.
