The Department of Art History is excited to invite you all to the 42nd Annual Graduate Student Symposium on Mar. 6-7, 2025 in WJB 2005. The event will feature presentations by and discussions with distinguished keynote speaker Claudia Brittenham, Professor of Art History and Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity and Director of the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Chicago. Dr. Brittenham’s research focuses on the art of ancient Mesoamerica, with particular attention to the ways that the materiality of art and the politics of style contribute to our understanding of the ontology of images.

Paper sessions begin on Friday afternoon, March 6 at 1:00 pm. Graduate students from around the country will present 20-minute talks, each followed by a short discussion with the audience. Dr. Brittenham will present the keynote lecture after the first paper session on Friday afternoon, and on Saturday, student paper sessions will continue at 9:30 am and 1:00 pm.
