About this Event
Free EventThe FSU Chamber Winds, under the direction of Richard Clary, present works by Strauss and Haydn in Opperman Music Hall on Sunday, November 4, at 7:30 p.m. This performance is free and open to the public.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The program for this performance features two of the most celebrated western music composers, Richard Strauss and Joseph Haydn. Haydn’s Symphony No. 92, “Oxford Symphony” which contains Haydn’s playful style of writing, presents recognizable themes, but always with an “unexpected twist” of a sudden key changes and hidden nods to famous Mozart themes. Strauss’ Sonatina No. 1 in F from “An Invalid’s Workshop” was one of the last pieces Strauss ever wrote, but nonetheless still presents his mastery of orchestration, which challenges the performers to play with virtuosic technique.
