Dance Marathon at FSU Statement 2021

Every year, Dance Marathon at FSU hosts a 26.2 hour long fundraising initiative to raise money for Shands Hospital and Children's Miracle Network. For Dance Marathon's 27th year, we have decided to highlight heart health and the 1 in every 4 children will be born with a congenital heart defect will need surgery or other interventions to survive. Over these 26.2 hours, we have decided to set a fundraising goal of $404,000.

This year, we will be reserving rooms on campus to create "internal hubs", where our internal team members can collaborate together to fundraise and plan for Statement. During the day Tuesday (11/9), we plan to have events on Landis Green in order to strike a movement on campus for people to get involved in our organization's fundraising efforts. On Landis from 9am-4pm (11/9), we would like to have a tye dye station where people can bring their own DM merch, a pie in the face station for fundraising, tabling done by our internal teams, yard games, and a coffee vendor. There will also be music and our gong with us.

Additionally, we plan on canning around campus from 8am-5pm and we will have canning hubs set up around campus to collect the donated money.

After Landis, we plan to travel to some of our paired organization's houses to bring them the gong from 5-7pm. I am going to attach a PDF version of the route we will take when traveling to each organization. For this, we are planning to rent golf carts for easy transportation.

After Gong on Tour, we are going to head back to Landis at 7:30pm for a vigil and comma club ceremony. During the vigil, we plan to honor all of the Children Miracle's Network children lost, and celebrate all of the children who are still getting and completed treatment. The comma club ceremony is used to highlight all of our members who have fundraised $1,000 or more, and they will receive a t-shirt and hospital band.

At 8pm, we plan to start our event DM After Dark on Landis. During DM After Dark, we are planning on inviting Tomahawk 51 (an axe throwing company), host a paint night, and have yard games available. We will also have some of our internal teams tabling to help people with fundraising and selling merchandise. We are planning to end the event by 10pm, and be off of Landis before 11pm (depending on how long clean up takes from the entire day).

On Wednesday 11/10, we plan on having an internal meeting on Landis at 8:30am, following by a yoga class at 9am. We also hope to have a coffee vendor on Landis and plan to hand out free pre-packaged bagels. Additionally, we plan on having music (through our speakers), the gong, and some of our internal teams tabling. We plan on wrapping up on Landis at 11:22am, and being completely cleaned up by 12pm.

Around noon, we are going to have a reveal for all of the money fundraised over the past 26.2 hours behind Landis Hall.
