Generative AI is changing the landscape of legal writing and ethics in both the classroom and the practice of law. In this workshop, we review studies comparing student work aided by generative AI with student work using traditional research and writing. We also survey AI misadventures in the legal practice. This session explores ABA Ethics Opinion 512, which provides guidance on the ethical use of generative AI. The opinion outlines key areas such as competence, confidentiality, communication, court use, supervision, and billing practices. We will discuss the implications of these guidelines and how students might use these strategies to begin practicing AI ethics in law school. Lunch provided to those who RSVP Here
