Florida Substance Use Disorder Symposium: Emerging Trends and Critical Issues

Join the Center for the Study and Promotion of Communities, Families, and Children for a one-day symposium on Substance Use Disorders (SUD), featuring keynote speaker Dr. Amy Bonhert, associate professor with the University of Michigan Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation.

The Florida Higher Education Substance Use Disorder Consortium is a multi-university project led by FSU and the National Association of Social Work, Florida Chapter (NASW-FL) and Citrus Health Network, Inc. to develop a science-informed curriculum concentrated on substance use disorder and co-occurring mental disorders.

This event will be offered both as an in person and virtual event via the Zoom platform. When you register, please select your preferred option. The in person option includes a boxed lunch.

  • 9:45 a.m. | Introduction of Keynote Speaker: Dr. Heather Flynn, Professor, and Interim Chair, Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine Director, Center for Behavioral Health Integration FSU College of Medicine

  • 10:00 a.m. | Keynote Speaker: Dr. Amy S.B. Bohnert, Ph.D., M.H.S, Developing and Piloting a Method to Identify Warning Signs for Opioid Overdose Among Adults Presenting to the Emergency Department

  • 11:00 a.m. | Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Panel: Moderated by Carol Edwards

  • 12:15 p.m. | Lunch- A box lunch will be provided. Vegetarian option available.

  • 1:30 p.m. | Medical Marijuana in Florida: The Research, Practices and Attitudes Panel: Moderated by Ellen Piekalkiewicz
