Over the past 50 years, the dominant model of faculty work—tenure-line positions involving distributed teaching, research, and service appointments—has given way to a more complex reality characterized by a greater representation of non tenure-line positions, and greater specialization of work. Many in academia have a simplistic or incomplete understanding of this transformation or may regard it only as a fleeting departure from the traditional model. This presentation will explore deeper insights into the nature and factors driving the secular changes in faculty appointments, and invite discussion of how the academic community—graduate students, faculty, administrators—might respond to them.

Following the talk, please join us for a reception at the Clubhouse at Industry Tallahassee featuring drinks and heavy hors d’oeuvres from 5 - 6:30 p.m.
