The university’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration will feature university performances, award presentations, and the Golden Torch Lecture keynote from Ben Crump. Crump is an FSU alumnus and renowned civil rights attorney who has represented the families of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, as well as the children of Flint, Michigan. He has been listed among the Most Influential People of 2021 by TIME100, Ebony Magazine’s Power 100 Most Influential African Americans, The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Lawyers, and the 2014 NNPA Newsmaker of the Year. Crump is the president of the National Civil Rights Trial Lawyers Association, previously served as president of the National Bar Association, and was the first African-American to chair the Florida State University College of Law Board of Directors.
