Building off the knowledge developed in Introduction to Codecs and Containers, this skills-oriented session will introduce participants to FFmpeg, the leading open-source multimedia framework used to decode, encode, transcode, filter, and play nearly every kind of audio-visual file format humans have come up with. We will provide an introduction to the syntax and structure of FFmpeg commands and run through some of its most basic and useful features. Some familiarity with a Bash/Terminal environment is encouraged but not required. We advise participants wishing to follow along on their own computers to install the framework prior to the session.
