Historian Andrew O’Shaughnessy will explore Jefferson’s ideas about higher education, including its purpose in cultivating civic virtue, advancing knowledge and sustaining liberty. The talk also will address how Jefferson’s vision influenced American universities — both their achievements and their contradictions.
