Please join us for this installment of the College of Education Lecture Series featuring Dr. Joseph Hellweg, “A Social Anatomy of Religious Intolerance: The Anthropology of the Body, US Politics, and Ritual Cosmology.”

Joseph Hellweg is a cultural anthropologist and associate professor of religion at Florida State University. He is past president of the Mande Studies Association and a current editor of the “Religion in Transforming Africa” Series for James Currey/Boydell & Brewer (UK) as well as deputy editor of the Journal of Religion in Africa (Brill) and a co-editor of Mande Studies (Indiana University Press). He has published on and done research with dozo hunters as well as with trans women and gay men in Côte d’Ivoire and on N’ko healers in Guinea and Mali. His books have appeared with the University of Chicago Press and L’Harmattan-Paris. His articles and chapters have appeared in journals including Africa, Africa Today, the African Studies Review, Afrique contemporaine, Journal of the Royal Anthropological Association, Migrations société and various edited collections.
