All students are invited to a lunch with Melissa Nelson, newly-elected State Attorney for Florida’s 4th Judicial Circuit in Jacksonville, on Tuesday, March 21 @ 12:30p (Rm 102). Lunch will be served. Melissa Nelson took office on Jan. 3, 2017. She leads a group of more than 100 attorneys and 200 staff who represent the people of Clay, Duval, and Nassau counties primarily in criminal matters. Mrs. Nelson previously spent 12 years in the State Attorney’s Office as an assistant state attorney (1997-2009), overseeing the felony division. She then spent seven years with the international law firm, McGuire Woods, where she represented colleges and universities in higher education matters as well as businesses and individuals in general litigation. In mid-2016, Mrs. Nelson successfully pursued the lead prosecutor’s role in the 4th Judicial Circuit on a “tough but fair” platform that sought to restore trust in the office of the State Attorney. Mrs. Nelson earned both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Florida. Click here if you wish to attend.
