Florida State Opera presents Berlioz’s operatic comedy Beatrice and Benedict, based on Shakespeare’s Much Ado about Nothing, in Opperman Music Hall, April 2nd through 5th. Set in sunny Italy, the opera explores the relationships of two sets of lovers: Beatrice and Benedict, who delight in trading quips and insults; and Claudio and Hero, a pair of starry-eyed romantics. Beatrice and Benedict have each sworn that they will never marry, but of course they discover that they cannot live without one another and, after much sparring, all ends well for everyone. Set in sunny Italy, the delightful plot is accompanied by Berlioz’s lively, sparkling music, played by the Florida State University Symphony Orchestra. The opera is sung in French with English dialogue and supertitles.
