We are excited to share that Yemeni journalist, politician, human rights activist, mother of three, and 2011 Nobel Peace Laureate Tawakkol Karman will be hosting the 2019 PeaceJam Southeast Conference - Stand Out, Speak Up.

When Karman was awarded the prize, at the age of 32, she became the first Yemeni, the first Arab woman, the second Muslim woman, and the youngest peace laureate at the time. Karman, is known as "The Mother of the Revolution" for her nonviolent struggle to ensure the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peacebuilding work in Yemen. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize concurrently with Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Leymah Gbowee.

While this event is open to the public, the intended audience is students in 8th grade through college.
