The FSU Piano Institute provides comprehensive instruction for advanced players who are looking to continue their keyboard studies into their college years. The overall instructional focus of this camp is on building technique, refining interpretation, and preparing for performances.
Students will receive instruction in music theory, piano literature, masterclasses, studio classes, and have daily practice time. One elective class is taken each day and students may choose from composition and arranging, world music, and duo piano.
Students have ample time built into their schedule for individual practice in their personal practice room. Student will also be scheduled for practice time in a grand piano practice room throughout the two weeks.
Four private lessons (two lessons per week) are included at the Institute. Private lessons are taught by FSU College of Music professors. The Institute will conclude with a final performance by all students in Longmire Recital Hall. In addition, students may be selected to perform at an off-campus performance during the second week of camp.
THE PIANO PLUS PROGRAM: Select students who audition for the Piano Institute will be invited to participate in the Piano PLUS program. This more intensive track will provide an additional two private lessons per week (for a total of 8 lessons during the course of camp), and specialized coaching and masterclasses. The selected students will have a more flexible schedule which includes the option of additional practice time in lieu of classes in music theory and piano literature. Students who wish to be considered for the Piano PLUS program must indicate this preference on their audition application form. Anywhere between 0 and 6 students may be selected.
Students who are interested must submit a recording, resumé and application form which will be reviewed by FSU Faculty members. For detailed information about applying, please click here.
