RAZOR Lecture: Planning for the Next Big Storm: How can the Panhandle prepare?

It is extremely challenging to prepare for very fast Category 5 hurricanes like Hurricane Michael. Storms of this size generate extreme winds and storm surge that knock out communications, including cellphone towers, and transportation routes. Proactive planning and decision-making at the community level can ensure that no one is left without assistance.

Dr. Eren Erman Ozguven is an associate professor of civil and environmental Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Dr. Ozguven’s research interests include emergency transportation operations, hurricane resilience, intelligent transportation systems, smart cities, urban mobility and more. Dr. Ozguven established a multi-disciplinary research program addressing safety and accessibility in resilient infrastructure and smart communities.
