This presentation will examine research on teacher preparation in university settings. Teacher educators have a dual responsibility to model good scholarship and good teaching. They are an essential conduit for transferring new knowledge to the next generation of teachers by explicitly making connections between research and their practice, regardless of whether they are primarily producers or consumers of research. Further, opportunities for students to apply knowledge and skills from coursework through field work (e.g., practicum, tutoring, internships) are a critical component of teacher preparation. The talk and associated discussion will examine alignment between research, coursework, and field experiences for pre-service teachers.
