Title: From Co-Design to the Classroom: Tracing Teacher Learning with the Curricular Values Framework

Abstract: Dr. Pomian Bogdanov will present her research on teachers’ pedagogical values as key drivers of reasoning across collaborative design and classroom enactment. Through the development of the Curricular Values Framework and analyses of a high school physics co-design team, she reveals how teachers draw on their classroom knowledge when negotiating design dilemmas involving tensions among goals such as scientific accuracy, coherence from the student perspective, and support for student reasoning. Her mixed-methods analyses further demonstrate that teacher learning is fostered not simply by participation frequency but by how teachers engage with and prioritize values in interaction with colleagues. Follow-up classroom research shows that the values teachers negotiate during co-design continue to guide their customization and enactment of instruction, adapting in response to local contexts. Dr. Pomian Bogdanov’s work offers insight into how teachers reason, learn, and teach through the lens of curricular values, and how curriculum co-design can support sustained pedagogical development.

Bio: Dr. Pomian Bogdanov is an Assistant Professor of Science Education at FSU. Her research examines how science teachers learn through curriculum co-design and how that learning shapes their instructional decision-making over time. Dr. Pomian Bogdanov has received several awards, including a Best Paper Award nomination at the International Society of the Learning Sciences in 2025 and the Best Lay-Language Paper from the Acoustical Society of America in 2024.
