Dr. Serhiy Kvit is a leading expert on education policy and journalism in Ukraine. He founded the School of Journalism at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla (http://www.ukma.edu.ua/eng/) in 2001 and led the institution as rector from 2007-2014. He was an outspoken advocate for education reform in his country. In 2014 just a few months after the Revolution of Dignity, Dr. Kvit was named Ukraine’s Minister of Education and Science. Under his leadership, Ukraine passed a new Law of Higher Education and began to align itself more closely with European Union standards. Although Dr. Kvit resigned as minister at the end of 2016, he remains an influential political figure, particularly on education policy matters, in Ukraine. Dr. Kvit is currently a Fulbright Scholar at Stanford University’s Europe Center.
This presentation is conducted through the Fulbright Scholar Program’s Outreach Lecturing Fund (OLF). OLF enables Visiting Scholars to share their research interests, speak about their home country, and exchange ideas with U.S. students, faculty, and community organizations. Through these lectures, universities forge relationships with the Fulbright Scholar Program, Visiting Scholars, and the Visiting Scholar’s home and host institutions.
