The Center for Demography and Population Health presents a talk on a topic of much contemporary discussion and debate.
Cornell University Professor Daniel T. Lichter will speak on “The Integration of Immigrants into Multicultural Societies” for the center’s annual Charles B. Nam Lecture in the Sociology of Population.
Lichter is the Ferris Family professor in the Department of Policy Analysis and Management and Professor of Sociology at Cornell. He is also the director of the university’s Institute for the Social Sciences.
He has published widely on topics in population and public policy, including studies of poverty and inequality, intermarriage, cohabitation and marriage among disadvantaged women and immigrant incorporation.
Lichter’s recent work has focused on changing ethno-racial boundaries as measured by changing patterns of interracial marriage and residential segregation in the United States. He is especially interested in America’s racial and ethnic transformation, growing diversity and the implications for the future.
The Charles B. Nam Lecture in the Sociology of Population is presented annually to highlight the latest research in key contemporary issues. It is named in honor of Charles Nam, Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus of Sociology and research associate with the Center for Demography and Population Health.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
